A DoorDash Red Card is a credit card that Dashers(DoorDash drivers) use to pay for some (not all) customer’s orders when a card payment is required. This card is used to make payments by the Dashers, on behalf of the customers, at restaurants.
With a similar working mechanism to that of credit cards during checkout, the Red Card contains only the amount required for customers’ orders without the inclusion of expenses such as gas and tips.
Each Dasher receives a Red Card during their orientation when they are sent a starter kit, hence, every Dasher has one.
How does DoorDash work?
Before heading over to the working mechanism of that , Let’s first explain how DoorDash works
DoorDash offers delivery services delivering foods, alcohol, and groceries from restaurants to various homes and workplaces through cashless web and app media.
Since it uses cashless mediums, the customers need to upload a payment card to their account before making their order through DoorDash. The added card will be used to make payments when subsequent orders are made.
So how does a DoorDash Red Card work?
After the order is placed, on the app, by the customer, DoorDash loads the Red Card with the customer’s payment for each order placed, the Dasher can now use the Red Card as a credit card for payment
Whether the Dasher places an order or uses the Red Card as a method of payment, during checkout, depends on the customer’s payment status.
Simply put, it depends on if the Dasher does payment before delivery.
Note that the money used during payment is not from the Dasher’s bank account.
As a Dasher, your work is simply to pick up and deliver customers’ orders.
To begin as a Dasher, you’ll have to sign up for DoorDash and pass the screening process.
After that, a starter kit would be sent to you via mail which will contain the Red Card, a hot bag, and a starter manual among other things.
But do note that before you can start earning with that app, you should have completed your application process and linked your Red Card.

The Red Card which is different from the DasherDirect card–a white card used only for faster accessibility of funds, can be set up both on Android and iOS devices

Using the DoorDash Red Card
Before we go any further, I believe you should know by now that the DoorDash Red Card is a prepaid card meaning that it has no funds in it, until the Dasher has an available order and when he or she has an order, the DoorDash app sends the exact amount of money to the Red Card. When payment is made, the leftover money, if there is, is removed from the card.
In the DoorDash app, the orders are categorized into two:
Those tagged with a red bannerThose without a black banner
While the first show that the customer hasn’t paid for the order beforehand, the latter are orders that have been pre-paid for by the customer. The Red Card is used only when the DoorDash app prompts you to use it as a method of payment at the pickup location.
The Red Card is a mandatory item for a Dasher and is given to a DoorDash driver before his or her first delivery.

No, the Red Card doesn’t get you more orders nor does it make you deliver faster.

Yes, it is but it is advised to always carry along your Card so that you will be able to use it whenever the DoorDash app prompts.
Can I use the Red Card to pay for gas?
No, you can’t use your Red Card for gas and other personal payments. DoorDash, like Lyft and Uber, is not responsible for payments for gas, tolls, tickets, tips, and even vehicle maintenance.
Does the Red Card have a PIN?
No, it doesn’t.
What percentage of tips do DoorDash drivers get to keep?
Dashers keep a hundred percent of the tips(100%).
What do I do if the Red Card fails?
In case of card failure or loss, you can use your cash or personal card for payment. You would be reimbursed by DoorDash for this. To make a reimbursement request, you are to fill out the Dasher support form.
Will my earnings be sent to my Red Card?
No, it is not, This is because that Card isn’t linked to a DoorDash driver’s bank account.
